Lectotype established (as figured specimen) in caption to Pl. 46, p. 3241 in Jordan & Evermann 1900 [ref. 2446]; a lectotype was also selected by Bailey & Gilbert 1960:356 [ref. 12396] and that specimen is now in USNM 39928. •Hybrid between Notropis rubellus (Agassiz 1850) and N. volucellus (Cope 1865) -- (Bailey & Gilbert 1960 [ref. 12396], Gilbert 1978:22, 52 [ref. 7042], Gilbert 1998:99 [ref. 23395]). Hybrid. Leuciscidae: Pogonichthyinae. Habitat: freshwater.

F.] 1856:199 [35] [Proceedings of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia v. 8; ref. 1810] Probably Cottonwood River, about 5 miles northwest of Durham, Marion County, Kansas, U.S.A. Lectotype: ANSP 2841 [ex USNM 132]. Paralectotypes: MCZ 1799 [ex USNM 132] (1) identified as N. volucellus, MNHN 0000-0372 [ex USNM 132] (1, lost), USNM 132 (orig 7, now 0). Type catalog: Gilbert 1978:56-57 [ref. 7042], Böhlke 1984:82 [ref. 13621], Gilbert 1998:106 [ref. 23395]. On p. 35 of separate. Lectotype selected from 2 remaining syntypes (each representing a separate species) by Mayden & Gilbert 1989:1085 [ref. 19165]. The name stramineus was conserved in Opinion 1991 of the ICZN in March 2002, and that name should be used as the valid name, rather than ludibundus.
