According to Behnke 2002:175 [ref. 31624], Montgomery provided the descriptive information from Behnke 1992:98 [ref. 23385] under the name Oncorhynchus clarki behnkei; we consider Montgomery the author of this subspecies. The taxa is figured but not described as Salmo carmichaeli in Schwiebert 1978 (unnumbered plate opposite p. 175) [ref. 31644], a nomen nudum, and figured but not named in Baxter & Stone 1995:170-171 [ref. 23374]. •Synonym of Oncorhynchus clarkii (Richardson 1836), but a valid subspecies behnkei Montgomery 1995 as described -- (Behnke 2002:175 [ref. 31624], Scharpf 2006:26 [ref. 30386], Trotter 2008:299 [ref. 31645], Page & Burr 2011:406 [ref. 31215]). •Synonym of Oncorhynchus virginalis (Girard 1856), subspecies bouvieri.
