Holotype: SIO 64-283. Named after Miss Ellen B. Scripps, the correct species epithet would be scrippsae. •Valid as Ophidion scrippsae (Hubbs 1916) -- (Eschmeyer & Herald 1983:102 [ref. 9277], Lea in Fischer et al. 1995:1344 [ref. 22829], Robins in Nielsen et al. 1999:41 [ref. 24448], Lea & Robins 2003:6 [ref. 27029], Nelson et al. 2004:92 [ref. 27807], Love et al. 2005:51 [ref. 37547], Page et al. 2013:95 [ref. 32708], Kells et al. 2016:112 [ref. 35888], Love et al. 2021:83 [ref. 39279], Page et al. 2023:110 [ref. 40505]). Current status: Valid as Ophidion scrippsae (Hubbs 1916). Ophidiidae: Ophidiinae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: central California (U.S.A.) south to southern Baja California Sur (Mexico). Habitat: marine.
