Often placed in its own family Parabrotulidae (including also Leucobrotula), with possible affinities with the Aphyonidae, e.g., by Nielsen and by Anderson. •Valid as Parabrotula Zugmayer 1911 -- (Nielsen 1973:548 [ref. 6885], Nielsen in Whitehead et al. 1986:1151 [ref. 13677], Anderson 1986:343 [ref. 5633], Nielsen et al. 1990:437 [ref. 19090], Kimura et al. 1990 [ref. 19556], Miya & Nielsen 1991 [ref. 19093], Hoese 2006:577 [ref. 28998], Campbell et al. 2017:337 [ref. 35124] in Bythitidae). Current status: Valid as Parabrotula Zugmayer 1911. Bythitidae.
