Original genus is correctly Nemacheilus. •Valid as Nemacheilus urophthalmus Günther 1868 -- (Menon 1987:149 [ref. 14149] as Noemacheilus, Talwar & Jhingran 1991:507 [ref. 20764]). •Synonym of Acanthocobitis botia (Hamilton 1822) -- (Kottelat 1990:28 [ref. 14137]). •Valid as Acanthocobitis urophthalmus (Günther 1868) -- (Pethiyagoda 1991:142 [ref. 20075], Kottelat 2012:50 [ref. 31992], Kottelat 2012:76 [ref. 32367]). •Valid as Acanthocobitis urophthalmus (Day 1872), but a valid subgenus Paracanthocobitis -- (Grant 2008:17 [ref. 33826]). •Valid as Paracanthocobitis urophthalma (Günther 1868) -- (Singer & Page 2015:396 [ref. 33823]). Current status: Valid as Paracanthocobitis urophthalma (Günther 1868). Nemacheilidae. Distribution: Sri Lanka. Habitat: freshwater.
