Type of Hypodytes Gistel 1848 was regarded as A. longispinis by Jordan 1919:235 [ref. 2410] such that Hypodytes is a senior objective synonym of Paracentropogon, but we interpret Gistel's Hypodytes to be a replacement of Apistus Cuvier 1829, with type Apistus alatus.
