Neotype: ZRC 31337. Proposed to replace the holotype with a neotype -- see Ng & Kottelat 1998:155 [ref. 25860]; this action was taken in Opinion 1946. The holotype was RMNH 6363, a specimen in poor condition. •Valid as Parosphromenus deissneri (Bleeker 1859) -- (Vierke 1986:107 [ref. 36452], Vierke 1988:152 [ref. 36453], Roberts 1989:174 [ref. 6439], Kottelat et al. 1993:164 [ref. 23448], Wakiyama et al. 1997:100 [ref. 25519], Kottelat & Ng 1998:265 [ref. 23320], Kottelat & Ng 2005:109 [ref. 28282], Tan & Ng 2005:131 [ref. 28283], Schindler & Linke 2012:399 [ref. 32321], Kottelat 2013:455 [ref. 32989], Shi et al. 2021:82 [ref. 38722]). Current status: Valid as Parosphromenus deissneri (Bleeker 1859). Osphronemidae: Macropodusinae. Distribution: Banka-Belitung, Indonesia. Habitat: freshwater.

Paratypes: SMF 3711 (4). •Valid as Parosphromenus sumatranus Klausewitz 1955 -- (Tan & Ng 2005:131 [ref. 28283], Schindler & Linke 2012:399 [ref. 32321], Kottelat 2013:456 [ref. 32989]). Current status: Valid as Parosphromenus sumatranus Klausewitz 1955. Osphronemidae: Macropodusinae. Distribution: Sumatra, Indonesia. Habitat: freshwater.
