Technically the first addition of a species name was in a work by Thompson 1850:164 [ref. 4392]; if prevailing usage is maintained, the type species can remain guttatus. Description also appeared in Agassiz 1850:126 [ref. 27415]. •Valid as Percopsis guttatus (Agassiz 1850) -- (Herrera 1896:31 [ref. 39336]). •Synonym of Percopsis omiscomaycus (Walbaum 1792) -- (Smith 1986:260 [ref. 22186], Scott & Crossman 1998:682 [ref. 24570], Mecklenburg et al. 2002:263 [ref. 25968], Poly 2004:2 [ref. 27584], Poly 2004:2 [ref. 27584]). Holotype (unique): Not at ANSP (whereabouts unknown). •Synonym of Percopsis omiscomaycus (Walbaum 1792) -- (Poly 2004:2 [ref. 27584]). Current status: Synonym of Percopsis omiscomaycus (Walbaum 1792). Percopsidae. Habitat: freshwater.

Originally Omisco Maycus; based on Pennant 1784:192 [ref. 18530]. pellucida, Percopsis Thompson [Z.] 1850:164 [Proceedings of the Boston Society of Natural History v. 3 (1848-1851); ref. 4392] Lake Champlain; Winooski River at Burlington, Vermont, U.S.A. Syntypes: (6-8) whereabouts unknown. Genus and species proposed as new, although conditionally as the same as Percopsis; species described under the heading Percopsis pellucida (see Appendix A in Eschmeyer et al. 1998). •Synonym of Percopsis omiscomaycus (Walbaum 1792) -- (Smith 1986:260 [ref. 22186], Scott & Crossman 1998:682 [ref. 24570], Poly 2004:2 [ref. 27584]).
