Neotype locality: Canary Islands, La Palma. Neotype: CAS 239122 (out of CAS 238003). Also appeared as new in Lowe 1838 [possibly 1836]:196, Pl. 2 [ref. 2828]. Neotype designated by Fernandez-Silva & Ho 2017:348 [ref. 35348]: 352. •Synonym of Priacanthus arenatus Cuvier 1829 -- (Hureau 1973:364 [ref. 7197], Hureau 1990:712 [ref. 17267]). •Synonym of Heteropriacanthus cruentatus (Lacepède 1801) -- (Starnes 1988:150 [ref. 6978]). •Valid as Heteropriacanthus fulgens (Lowe 1838) -- (Fernandez-Silva & Ho 2017:348 [ref. 35348], Carneiro et al. 2019:248 [ref. 37250]).
