Pinguipedidae. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.

Paralectotypes: ?MNHN 0000-7646 (2, poor condition), 0000-7647 (1 or 2). Type catalog: Bauchot & Desoutter 1989:49 [ref. 15502]. Lectotype selected by Rosa & Rosa 1997:855 [ref. 25850]. •Valid as Prolatilus jugularis (Valenciennes 1833) -- (McCosker 1971:682 [ref. 7692], Nakamura in Nakamura et al. 1986:204 [ref. 14235], Pequeño 1989:60 [ref. 14125], Rosa & Rosa 1998:855 [ref. 25850], Chirichigno F. & Vélez D. 1998:335 [ref. 24555], Pequeño 1999:172 [ref. 24566]).
