Paratypes: 18 specimens in Prokofiev & KuKuev 2001:112 as P. sagamianus. •Synonym of Pseudoscopelus sagamianus Tanaka 1908, but a valid subspecies as described. •Synonym of Pseudoscopelus scriptus Lűtken 1892 -- (Prokofiev 2014:650 [ref. 34633]). Current status: Synonym of Pseudoscopelus sagamianus Tanaka 1908. Chiasmodontidae. Distribution: Atlantic and Indian oceans. Habitat: marine.

pierbartus, Pseudoscopelus Spitz [J.], Quéro [J.-C.] & Vayne [J.-J.] 2007:336, Fig. 2 [Cybium v. 31 (no. 3); ref. 29400] Gulf of Gascogne, Northeastern Atlantic, 45°21'N, 3°40'W, depth about 500 meters over 3000 meters. Holotype: MHNLR 2005171. Paratypes: MHNLR 407040001 (1). •Nomen inquirenda and nomen dubium, probably a synonym -- (Prokofiev & Kukuev 2007:122 [ref. 29559]). •Possibly a synonym of Pseudoscopelus sagamianus Tanaka 1908, and possibly available as a subspecies for the Atlantic and Indian Ocean populations. •Valid as Pseudoscopelus pierbartus Spitz, Quéro & Vayne 2007 -- (Melo 2010:30 [ref. 31058]). •Synonym of Pseudoscopelus obtusifrons (Fowler 1934) -- (Prokofiev 2011:708 [ref. 31701]). Current status: Synonym of Pseudoscopelus obtusifrons (Fowler 1934). Chiasmodontidae. Distribution: North Atlantic and western South Atlantic (Brazil) [if valid]. Habitat: marine.

Imperial University, Tokyo v. 23 (art. 13); ref. 4321] [original: Sagami Bay, Pacific coast of Japan.] Northeastern Pacific, 40°00'N, 165°00'W. Neotype: NSMT 35337. Syntypes: (2) whereabouts unknown. Neotype designated by Prokofiev 2009:15 [ref. 30026]; see Melo 2010:24 [ref. 31058] for crisiticm (selection not in accordancew with the Code). •Synonym of Pseudoscopelus scriptus Lütken 1892, but a valid subspecies as described -- (Uyeno in Masuda et al. 1984:221 [ref. 6441], Okamura in Okamura et al. 1985:559, 713 [ref. 8056]). •Synonym of Pseudoscopelus scriptus Lütken 1892 -- (Mecklenburg et al. 2002:789 [ref. 25968], Parin 2003:S19 [ref. 28536] with question, Prokofiev & Kukuev 2005:749 [ref. 28534] assumed, Prokofiev & Kukuev 2006:169 [ref. 28617]). •Valid as Pseudoscopelus sagamianus Tanaka 1908 -- (Nakabo et al. 1992:22 [ref. 21909], Nakabo 2000:1073 [ref. 25182], Sheiko & Fedorov 2000:39 [ref. 25650], Mooi & Paxton 2001:3496 [ref. 26280], Nakabo 2002:1073 [ref. 26193], Shinohara et al. 2005:437 [ref. 28370], Mundy 2005:456 [ref. 28379] as sagamiensis, Melo et al. 2007:34 [ref. 29307], Spitz et al. 2007:335 [ref. 29400], Prokofiev & Kukyev 2007:112, 152 [ref. 29559], Prokofiev 2009:10 [ref. 30026], Melo 2010:21 [ref. 31058], Prokofiev 2011:712 [ref. 31701] with subspecies, Parin et al. 2014:462 [ref. 33547], Prokofiev 2014:649 [ref. 34633], Melo & Stewart 2015:1457 [ref. 34290], Carneiro et al. 2019:290 [ref. 37250]).
