Muraena davisi Fowler 1912. Apparently based on a misidentified type species, as aquaedulcis (see McCosker & Rosenblatt 1975:422 [ref. 9341]). Type species established by Kottelat 2013:42 [ref. 32989]. •Synonym of Gymnothorax Bloch 1795 -- (Böhlke et al. 1989:145 [ref. 13286], Castro-Aguirre et al. 1999:103 [ref. 24550], Böhlke & Randall 2000:226 [ref. 24493], Smith 2012:10 [ref. 32155], Kottelat 2013:42 [ref. 32989]).
