The type species aquila is now placed in Myliobatis so research is needed. Jordan 1917:134 [ref. 2407] lists as above with author as Serville, but name can be considered an incorrect subsequent spelling of Dasybatus Blainville and author is Blainville; see remarks under Blainville 1825 [ref. 4991]. •Synonym of Dipturus Rafinesque 1810. Dasybatus Bonaparte [C. L.] 1834:puntata 32 [Iconografia della fauna italica; ref. 517] Masc. Raja radula Delaroche 1809. Apparently appeared first in puntata 32, fasc. 6 under Raja marginata and spelled Leiobatus and Leiobatis; also appeared in puntata 68 under Raja radula. Bonaparte attributes the name to Blainville, so Bonaparte's treatment is not regarded as an original description.
