Technically, the described specimen was designated lectotype by Eschmeyer 1998:1646 [ref. 23416]. •Synonym of Rhinogobius similis Gill 1859 -- (Okada 1961:659 [ref. 6363]). •Synonym of Rhinogobius brunneus (Temminck & Schlegel 1845) -- (Vasil'eva 1998:146 [ref. 23591]). •Synonym of Rhinogobius candidianus (Regan 1908) -- (Chen & Shao 1996:206 [ref. 22202], Ho & Shao 2011:58 [ref. 31432], Suzuki et al. 2017:80 [ref. 35202]). Current status: Synonym of Rhinogobius candidianus (Regan 1908). Oxudercidae: Gobionellinae. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
