Appeared first without species as "Les Salanx" in Cuvier 1816:185, but in footnote (1) is the latinized Salanx which can only refer to "Les Salanx" based on Cuvier's style. Two species included by Valenciennes in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1850:360 [ref. 1014].
