Harpadon (subgenus of Saurus) Lesueur [C. A.] 1825:50 [Journal of the Academy of Natural Sciences, Philadelphia v. 5 (pt 1); ref. 5024] Masc. Salmo microps Lesueur 1825. Type by original designation (also monotypic). Spelled Harpodon by Cuvier 1829:314 [ref. 995]. Lesueur states, "type of a new subgenus near to Saurus"; it is somewhat unclear if he was describing Harpadon as a subgenus of Salmo or Saurus. Spelling of subfamily correctly is Harpadontinae. •Valid as Harpadon Lesueur 1825 -- (Klausewitz 1983 [ref. 6011], Okiyama 1984:207 [ref. 13644], Fujii in Masuda et al. 1984:62 [ref. 6441], Paxton et al. 1989:242 [ref. 12442], Ataur Rahman 1989:70 [ref. 24860] as Harpodon, Russell 1999:1932 [ref. 24747], Sato & Nakabo 2002:44 [ref. 25953], Ataur Rahman 2003:86 [ref. 31338] as Harpodon, Hoese et al. 2006:473 [ref. 29051], Kottelat 2013:270 [ref. 32989], Ganga et al. 2016:1 [ref. 34160], Golani & Fricke 2018:34 [ref. 36273]). Current status: Valid as Harpadon Lesueur 1825. Synodontidae: Harpadontinae.

Salmo odoe Bloch 1794. Type by subsequent designation (and monotypy). Appeared without species, first addition of a species by Hubbs 1939:168 [ref. 5012]. Type by subsequent monotypy or by subsequent designation of Hubbs 1939:168 [ref. 5012]. •Valid as Hepsetus Swainson 1838 -- (Géry 1977:17 [ref. 1597], Vari 1983:5 [ref. 5419], Roberts 1984:138 [ref. 6182], Lévêque et al. 1989:115 [ref. 26480], Paugy & Bénech 1989:300 [ref. 26478], Paugy in Lévêque et al. 1990:192 [ref. 21589], Paugy et al. 1990:337 [ref. 26477], Poll & Gosse 1995:101 [ref. 24781], Dankwa et al. 1999:17 [ref. 28023], Paugy 2007:343 [ref. 30021], Oliveira et al. 2011:10 [ref. 31685], Zengeya et al. 2011:1723 [ref. 32575], Decru et al. 2012:1 [ref. 31646], Marshall 2011:143 [ref. 31755], Decru et al. 2013:1351 [ref. 32574], Decru et al. 2013:187 [ref. 33014], Decru et al. 2015:273 [ref. 34058], Decru et al. 2017:617 [ref. 35508]). Histiodromus Gistel [J.] 1848:VIII [Naturgeschichte des Thierreichs; ref. 1822] Masc. Salmo anostomus Linnaeus 1758. Type by being a replacement name. Unneeded replacement for Anostomus Gronow 1763 and others, not preoccupied by Anastomus Illiger 1835; published earlier in an available way by Scopoli 1777. •Objective synonym of Anostomus Scopoli 1777 -- (Winterbottom 1980:9 [ref. 4755], Taphorn 1992:33 [ref. 23654] as Histriodromus, Garavello & Britski in Reis et al. 2003:72 [ref. 27061], Sidlauskas & Vari 2008:75 [ref. 29786]). Current status: Synonym of Anostomus Scopoli 1777. Anostomidae: Anostominae.

Hucho (subgenus of Salmo) Günther [A.] 1866:125 [Catalogue of the fishes in the British Museum v. 6; ref. 1983] Masc. Salmo hucho Linnaeus 1758. Type by monotypy, only one species mentioned (also by absolute tautonymy). Proposed somewhat conditionally (but available), and probably can be interpreted as proposed as a subgenus of Salmo. •Valid as Hucho Günther 1866 -- (Hensel & Holčík 1983:68 [ref. 36467], Araga in Masuda et al. 1984:36 [ref. 6441], Kendall & Behnke 1984:144 [ref. 13638], Wu & Wu 1992:130 [ref. 21205], Stearley & Smith 1993:20 [ref. 26683], Bogutskaya & Naseka 1996:13 [ref. 22798], Yang in Chen 1998:41 [ref. 23556], Dorofeeva & Savvaitova 1998:31 [ref. 23574], Sideleva 2001:46 [ref. 26181], Sideleva 2003:13 [ref. 27815], Bogutskaya & Naseka 2004:151 [ref. 28183], Kottelat & Freyhof 2007:396 [ref. 29996], Parin et al. 2014:130 [ref. 33547], Zhang et al. 2016:189 [ref. 34477] but misspelled Huso, Dyldin & Orlov 2016:677 [ref. 34853], Bogdanov & Knizhin 2022:1696 [ref. 40154]). Hydrocynus (subgenus of Salmo) Cuvier [G.] 1816:167 [Le Règne Animal; ref. 993] Masc. Hydrocynus lucius Cuvier 1816. Type by subsequent designation. Needs research on type species and possible action by the ICZN. Type often given as Hydrocyon forskahlii Cuvier 1819, but that was not an originally included species in 1816. Type apparently designated first by Eigenmann 1910:446 [ref. 1224] as lucius (see Travassos 1951 [ref. 4450]), and not by Agassiz in Spix & Agassiz 1829:76 [ref. 13] or by Cuvier 1819 [ref. 1017]. Hydrocion Duméril 1856 and Hydrocinus Boulenger (ex Cuvier) 1909 are unjustified emendations or incorrect subsequent spellings. Type apparently not H. forskahlii Cuvier 1819. Hydrocionichthys Travassos 1952 is an objective synonym if the type of Hydrocynus is forskahlii. But the type species, if correctly H. lucius, is a South American species placed by current authors in the genus Boulengerella in a different family. An African type species for Hydrocynus, such as forskahlii, would stabilize current usage. See Brewster 1986:164 [ref. 8104]. •Valid as an African genus Hydrocynus Cuvier 1816 -- (Géry 1977:54 [ref. 1597], Paugy 1984:169 [ref. 6183], Brewster 1986:163 [ref. 8104], Paugy & Guégan 1989:64 [ref. 26479] with date as 1819, Lévêque et al. 1989:116 [ref. 26480], Paugy & Bénech 1989:300 [ref. 26478], Paugy in Lévêque et al. 1990:198 [ref. 21589], Paugy et al. 1990:337 [ref. 26477], Poll & Gosse 1995:141 [ref. 24781], Seegers 1996:165 [ref. 23725], Dankwa et al. 1999:18 [ref. 28023], Zanata & Vari 2005;117 [ref. 28816], Ibala Zamba et al. 2007:1213 [ref. 29470], Paugy & Schaefer 2007:353 [ref. 30022], Mirande 2009:6 [ref. 30267] in Alestidae, Mirande 2010:474 [ref. 31006], Oliveira et al. 2011:10 [ref. 31685], Marshall 2011:138 [ref. 31755], Arroyave & Stiassny 2011:394 [ref. 34108]). Current status: Valid as Hydrocynus Cuvier 1816. Alestidae.

Type designated by Swain 1882:279 [ref. 5966]. •Synonym of Synodus Scopoli 1777 -- (Nielsen 1973:161 [ref. 6885], see Anderson et al. 1966:47 [ref. 6977], Castellanos-Galindo et al. 2006:260 [ref. 28944]).
