erythraeus, Samaris cristatus natio Chabanaud [P.] 1969:874, Figs. 1-4 [Bulletin du Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle (Série 2) v. 40 (no. 5) (for 1968); ref. 25926] Gulf of Suez. Syntypes: MNHN 1966-0548 (1), 1967-0621 to 0626 (6), 1989-0626 (1) Type catalog: Desoutter et al. 2001:315 [ref. 25922]. Unfortunately, Chabanaud referred to this taxon as a new natio, which can be regarded as infrasubspecific and unavailable; he referred to this taxon as Samaris erythraeus on. p. 56; in footnote 1 on p. 874 it is stated that Chabanaud treated erythraeus as "une espèce indépendante de cristatus... So, we regard erythraeus as a subspecies following Desoutter et al. 2001. Chabanaud referred to the Le type, but Desoutter et al. treated only syntypes. Name appeared first in 1949 as a nomen nudum (see Type catalog: Desoutter 2001:315 [ref. 25922]). •Synonym of Samaris ornatus von Bonde 1922 -- (Desoutter et al. 2001:315 [ref. 25922]). •Synonym of Samaris cristatus Gray 1831 -- (authors).
