Paratypes: AMNH 20928 (1). •Synonym of Sarcocheilichthys microoculus Mori 1927, but a valid subspecies -- (Bănărescu & Nalbant 1967:308 [ref. 20624]). •Valid as Sarcocheilichthys kiangsiensis Nichols 1930 -- (Luo et al. 1977:473 [ref. 2850], Zheng et al. 1989:130 [ref. 21202], Jin in Pan et al. 1991:197 [ref. 23876], Ding 1994:258 [ref. 21531], Zhu 1995:76 [ref. 25213], Yue in Chen et al. 1998:275 [ref. 23878], Tang et al. 2001:13 [ref. 25373], Zhang et al. 2016:78 [ref. 34477], An et al. 2020:217 [ref. 37481], Chen & Li 2024:267 [ref. 41753]). Current status: Valid as Sarcocheilichthys kiangsiensis Nichols 1930. Gobionidae. Distribution: East Asia: lower Yangtze River basin, China. Habitat: freshwater.

microoculus, Sarcocheilichthys Mori [T.] 1927:98 [Annotationes Zoologicae Japonenses v. 11 (no. 2); ref. 15802] Otsu, Lake Biwa, Japan. Holotype: whereabouts unknown. Mori specimens: AMNH 20928 (1). •Valid as Sarcocheilichthys microoculus Mori 1927 -- (Bănărescu & Nalbant 1967:307 [ref. 20624]). •Synonym of Sarcocheilichthys variegatus (Temminck & Schlegel 1846) -- (Okada 1961:416 [ref. 6363]). •Synonym of Sarcocheilichthys variegatus (Temminck & Schlegel 1846), but a valid subspecies microoculus Mori 1927 -- (Sawada in Masuda et al. 1984:55 [ref. 6441], Okamura & Machida 1987:106 [ref. 22279], Kawanabe & Mizuno 1989:300 [ref. 25598], Watanabe 1998:263 [ref. 23491], Nakabo 2000:267 [ref. 25086], Nakabo 2002:267 [ref. 26001]). Current status: Synonym of Sarcocheilichthys variegatus (Temminck & Schlegel 1846). Gobionidae. Habitat: freshwater.
