Distribution: Indo-West Pacific: Madagascar; northern Australia, south to Rottnest Island (Western Australia); Louisiade Archipelago (Papua New Guinea). Habitat: marine.

macrolepis, Saurida Tanaka [S.] 1917:39 [Dobutsugaku Zasshi = Zoological Magazine Tokyo v. 29 (no. 340); ref. 17353] Tokyo market, Japan. Neotype: ZUMT 7478. Other specimens: ZUMT 7477 (1, lost), 7479 (1). Type catalog: Aizawa et al. 2022:240 [ref. 39655] as syntypes. The described specimen was lost; I recorded ZUMT 7478-79 as syntypes based on external information. Distribution: Indo-West Pacific: East Africa and Persian Gulf east to Gulf of Thailand, north to southern Korea, central Sea of Japan (Japan) and Pacific coast of southern Japan. Former records from Red Sea and Mediterranean based on S. lessepsianus. Habitat: marine.
