Described in more detail in Steindachner 1903:152 [ref. 15046]. •Valid as Scarus arabicus (Steindachner 1902) -- (Randall & Bruce 1983:9 [ref. 5412], Bellwood 1994:67 [ref. 19116], Randall 1995:295 [ref. 22896], Parenti & Randall 2000:55 [ref. 24943], Manilo & Bogorodsky 2003:S115 [ref. 27377], Psomadakis et al. 2015:299 [ref. 34104], Zajonz et al. 2019:91 [ref. 36871], Randall 2022:278 [ref. 39936], Zajonz et al. 2022:220 [ref. 40522], Zajonz et al. 2023:308 [ref. 40679]). Current status: Valid as Scarus arabicus (Steindachner 1902). Labridae. Distribution: Northwestern Indian Ocean: Gulf of Aden (Yemen), Socotra (Yemen) and Gulf of Oman east to Pakistan. Habitat: marine.

Based in part on Scarus gallus Forsskål 1775. •Synonym of Thalassoma lunare (Linnaeus 1758) -- (Dor 1984:209 [ref. 29757] with question, Parenti & Randall 2000:46 [ref. 24943], Randall & Victor 2022:259 [ref. 39916]). Current status: Synonym of Thalassoma lunare (Linnaeus 1758). Labridae. Habitat: marine.
