coerulea, Coryphaena Edwards [M.] in Catesby 1771:cat. 1 [The natural history of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands; ref. 774] Bahamas. No types known. Catesby 1771 is a rejected work, and unavailable (Opinions 89 and 259) but the appendix by Edwards is available. On Novacula caerulea Catesby, Nat. Hist. Carolina 1743, 18 pl. 18. Bahamas. On p. 120 of Bloch's Ichthyologie, v. 5 [ref. 21381]. This species dates to Edwards 1771 and not to Bloch 1786 unless the ICZN is petitioned or continued usage maintained. Catesby 1771 is a rejected work, and unavailable (Opinions 89 and 259) but the appendix by Edwards is available. Coryphaena coerulea Bloch 1786 is a primary homonym of Coryphaena coerulea Edwards 1771. Bloch & Schneider treat Scarus coerulea seven pages before, so the above is subjectively invalid; secondarily preoccupied in Scarus by Coryphaena coerulea Bloch 1786 [author is actually Edwards 1771; see Coryphaena coerulea]. •Synonym of Scarus coeruleus (Edwards 1771). 2°Homonym.
