Paratypes: CAS-SU 7465 (1), USNM 125661 [ex USBF 1221, USFC 2735] (1). Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:88 [ref. 12291]. Spelled barborus in main entry, spelled borborus in index (p. 545). Also appeared in Jordan & Evermann 1905:349, Fig. 150 [ref. 2451]. First reviser selection by Jordan & Evermann 1905:349, footnote, where it is indicated that barborus was a misprint for borborus. •Synonym of Chlorurus perspicillatus (Steindachner 1879) -- (Parenti & Randall 2000:53 [ref. 24943], Lobel & Lobel 2004:74 [ref. 27576], Mundy 2005:452 [ref. 28379]). W.] & Tanaka [S.] 1927:676, Pl. 24 (fig. 2) [Proceedings of the California Academy of Sciences (Series 4) v. 16 (no. 20); ref. 2454] Honolulu market, Oahu Island, Hawaiian Islands. Holotype (unique): CAS 370 [not 376]. The holotype is about 450 mm TL, disagreeing with the length given in the original description, but this larger specimen agrees is all details with the figure. •Synonym of Chlorurus perspicillatus (Steindachner 1879) -- (Parenti & Randall 2000:53 [ref. 24943], Mundy 2005:452 [ref. 28379], Randall 2007:361 [ref. 30952]). perspicillatus, Scarus Steindachner [F.] 1879:32 [Anzeiger der Kaiserlichen Akademie der Wissenschaften, Wien, Mathematisch-Naturwissenschaftliche Classe v. 16 (no. 4); ref. 20480] Hawaiian Islands. Holotype (unique): whereabouts unknown. Species originally described as above, later described as Scarus (Scarus) perspicilliatus in more detail, but as Scarus perspicillatus on text-figure page, in Steindachner 1879:16, Pl. 4 (fig. 1) [ref. 4228]. •Valid as Chlorurus perspicillatus (Steindachner 1879) -- (Bellwood 1994:66 [ref. 19116], Parenti & Randall 2000:53 [ref. 24943], Mundy 2005:452 [ref. 28379], Randall 2007:361 [ref. 30952]). Current status: Valid as Chlorurus perspicillatus (Steindachner 1879). Labridae. Distribution: Central Pacific: Johnston Atoll and Hawaiian Islands. Habitat: marine.
