Syntypes: RMNH D834 (1, dry), D836 (1, dry), D894 (1, dry), 1274 (5). Regarded by Boeseman 1964:462 [ref. 20805] as proposed for a subspecies distinct from Scomber japonicus Houttuyn 1782, and with infra-subspecific names major and minor; Boeseman lists types in the Leiden collection. In any case, the name is objectively invalid; preoccupied by Scomber japonicus Houttuyn. •Incertae sedis in Scombridae -- (Collette 2003:21 [ref. 27312]). 1°Homonym. Scombridae: Scombrinae. Habitat: marine.

Boeseman 1964:463, Fig. 6 [ref. 20805] regards this as an available subspecies, not the same as Scomber japonicus Houttuyn 1782. The name is objectively invalid; preoccupied by Scomber japonicus Houttuyn 1782. •Synonym of Scomber japonicus Houttuyn 1782 -- (Collette 2003:9 [ref. 27312]). 1°Homonym. Current status: Synonym of Scomber japonicus Houttuyn 1782. Scombridae: Scombrinae. Habitat: marine.
