Regarded by Boeseman 1964:462 [ref. 20805] as proposed for a subspecies distinct from Scomber japonicus Houttuyn 1782, and with infra-subspecific names major and minor; Boeseman lists types in the Leiden collection. In any case, the name is objectively invalid; preoccupied by Scomber japonicus Houttuyn. •Incertae sedis in Scombridae -- (Collette 2003:21 [ref. 27312]). 1°Homonym. Scombridae: Scombrinae.
