argyreus, Scomberomorus Fowler [H. W.] 1905:764, Pl. 51 (lower fig.) [Proceedings of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia v. 56 (for 1904); ref. 1368] Cape Palmas, Liberia. Holotype (unique): ANSP 11400. Type catalog: Böhlke 1984:152 [ref. 13621]. •Synonym of Scomberomorus tritor (Cuvier 1832) -- (Collette & Nauen 1983:79 [ref. 5375], Collette & Russo 1985:669 [ref. 5221], Collette 1990:989 [ref. 19476], Collette 2003:13 [ref. 27312]). Current status: Synonym of Scomberomorus tritor (Cuvier 1832). Scombridae: Scombrinae. Habitat: brackish, marine.

immunis, Apolectus Bennett [E. T.] 1831:146 [Proceedings of the Committee of Science and Correspondence of the Zoological Society of London 1830-31 (pt 1); ref. 5778] Atlantic coast of North Africa. No types known. Apparently predates Cybium tritor Cuvier 1832, but it is suggested that tritor be used based on current usage; see account of Scomberomorus tritor (Cuvier 1832). •Synonym of Scomberomorus tritor (Cuvier 1832) -- (Postel 1973:473 [ref. 7208], Collette & Nauen 1983:79 [ref. 5375], Collette & Russo 1985:669 [ref. 5221], Collette 1990:989 [ref. 19476], Collette 2003:12 [ref. 27312]). Current status: Synonym of Scomberomorus tritor (Cuvier 1832). Scombridae: Scombrinae. Habitat: brackish, marine.

tritor, Cybium Cuvier [G.] in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1832:176, Pl. 218 [Histoire naturelle des poissons; ref. 1000] Gorée, Senegal. Lectotype: MNHN A-6871. Paralectotypes: MNHN A-6868 (1), plus one missing. Type catalog: Bauchot & Blanc 1961:372-373 [ref. 20733], Blanc & Bauchot 1964:448, Fig. 18 [ref. 20804], Collette & Russo 1984:669 [ref. 5221], and Collette 1966:367 [ref. 14641] as holotype and paratype. Technicially there were syntypes although the primary description was based mostly on A.6871 (which was designated lectotype by Eschmeyer 1998:1704 [ref. 23416]). Evidently predated by Apolectus immunis Bennett 1831, but believing that Cybium tritor and Apolectus immunis were both described in 1831, Collette & Russo 1985 [ref. 5221] followed common usage and selected Scomberomorus tritor for this species, and current usage should be maintained. •Valid as Scomberomorus tritor (Cuvier 1832) -- (Postel 1973:473 [ref. 7208], Collette & Nauen 1983:78 [ref. 5375], Collette & Russo 1985:668 [ref. 5221], Collette in Whitehead et al. 1986:993 [ref. 13676], Collette 1990:989 [ref. 19476], Banford et al. 1999:597 [ref. 23912], Afonso et al. 1999:80 [ref. 25466], Collette et al. 2001:2 [ref. 25629], Collette 2003:1851 [ref. 27087], Collette 2003:12 [ref. 27312], Wirtz et al. 2007:41 [ref. 30263], Wirtz et al. 2013:135 [ref. 32972], Collette in Carpenter & De Angelis 2016:2910 [ref. 34618], Almeida & Alves 2019:272 [ref. 37509], Carneiro et al. 2019:169 [ref. 37250], Collette & Graves 2019:222 [ref. 37341], Reiner 2019:280 [ref. 38139], Kovačić et al. 2021:90 [ref. 39014], Fermon et al. 2022:213 [ref. 39448]).
