Paralectotypes: identified as cheni CAS 45866 (1), 221441 (1), 221442 (1); CAS-SU 23647 (2), 29095 (2), 69870 (1), 69871 (1), 69872 (1); ZIN 44651(1). Plus other Paralectotypes reidentified to ventricosus (2), unidentified (9), plus one misidentifiation; original lots divided. Lectotype selected by Kai & Nakabo 2008:254, 256 [ref. 29759]. •Status uncertain -- (Kai & Nakabo 2002:260 [ref. 26335] as a color morph of S. inermis or a valid species, Kai et al. 2002:2596 [ref. 26731]). •Valid as Sebastes cheni Barsukov 1988 -- (Snytko 2001:22 [ref. 26410], Kai & Nakabo 2008:254 [ref. 29759], Kim et al. 2020:89 [ref. 39118], Sonoyama et al. 2020:41 [ref. 37637], Yasutake et al. 2021:36 [ref. 38944]). Current status: Valid as Sebastes cheni Barsukov 1988. Scorpaenidae: Sebastinae. Distribution: Northwestern Pacific: Japan and southern Korea. Habitat: marine.
