chalcogrammus, Sebastes (Murasoius) pachycephalus form Matsubara [K.] 1943:244 [Transactions Sigenkagaku Kenkyusyo No. 2; ref. 2905] Simonoseki, Japan. Holotype: Imp. Fish. Inst. No. 6317. Paratypes: (12). Called a form but treated as a subspecies and is regarded as available. •Apparently a synonym of Sebastes pachycephalus Temminck & Schlegel 1843. •Synonym of Sebastes pachycephalus Temminck & Schlegel 1843, but a valid subspecies -- (Lindberg & Krasyukova 1987:77 [ref. 15964], Nakabo 2000:595 [ref. 25086], Shimizu 2001:25 [ref. 25799], Nakabo 2002:595 [ref. 26001]). •Treated chalcogrammus and nudus as a valid species separate from S. pachycephalus, but no first reviser action taken -- (Kai et al. 2011:340 [ref. 31619]). •Synonym of Sebastes nudus Matsubara 1943 -- (Kai & Nakabo 2013:551 [ref. 32653]). Current status: Synonym of Sebastes nudus Matsubara 1943. Scorpaenidae: Sebastinae. Habitat: marine.

latus, Sebastichthys (Pteropodus) Matsubara [K.] 1934:208 [Journal of the Imperial Fisheries Institute Tokyo v. 30 (no. 3); ref. 13900] Tokyo fish market ("probably from Tokyo Bay"), Japan. No types at FAKU. •Synonym of Sebastes pachycephalus Temminck & Schlegel 1843 -- (Kai & Nakabo 2013:543 [ref. 32653]). Current status: Synonym of Sebastes pachycephalus Temminck & Schlegel 1843. Scorpaenidae: Sebastinae. Habitat: marine.

nigricans, Sebastodes Schmidt [P. Yu.] 1930:461 [Proceedings of the 4th Pacific Science Congress, Java, 1929 v. 3 (Biol. Pap.); ref. 3941] Nagasaki, Japan. Holotype (unique): ZIN 22686. Appeared first as above with brief characterization (and misspelled nigricaus); more complete description in Schmidt 1931:97, Fig. 13 [ref. 16332] as Sebastodes (Acumentum) nigricans. Kai & Nakabo 2013:551 [ref. 32653] regard nigrocaus as valid [but nigricans has been used for 56 species of fishes, and nigricaus for zero; therefore nigricaus is regarded as a type-setting error]. •Apparently a synonym of Sebastes pachycephalus Temminck & Schlegel 1843. •Synonym of Sebastes pachycephalus Temminck & Schlegel 1843, but a valid subspecies -- (Lindberg & Krasyukova 1987:76 [ref. 15964], Nakabo 2000:595 [ref. 25086], Nakabo 2002:595 [ref. 26001], Kai et al. 2011:333 [ref. 31619]). •Valid as Sebastes nigricans (Schmidt 1930) -- (Cheng & Zhou 1997:409 [ref. 26385] dated 1931, Shytko 2001:52 [ref. 26410]). •Synonym of Sebastes pachycephalus Temminck & Schlegel 1843 -- (Kai et al. 2011:340 [ref. 31619], Kai & Nakabo 2013:543 [ref. 32653], Parin et al. 2014:219 [ref. 33547]). Current status: Synonym of Sebastes pachycephalus Temminck & Schlegel 1843. Scorpaenidae: Sebastinae. Habitat: marine.

nudus, Sebastes (Murasoius) pachycephalus form Matsubara [K.] 1943:239 [Transactions Sigenkagaku Kenkyusyo No. 2; ref. 2905] Hakodate, Oshima Subprefecture, Hokkaido, Japan. Holotype: Imp. Fish. Inst. no. 352. Paratypes: (13). Called a form but treated as a subspecies, so regarded as available. Barsukov 2003 selected nudus as valid over Chalcogrammus. •Apparently a synonym of Sebastes pachycephalus Temminck & Schlegel 1843. •Synonym of Sebastes pachycephalus Temminck & Schlegel 1843, but a valid subspecies -- (Nakabo 2000:595 [ref. 25086], Nakabo 2002:595 [ref. 26001]). •Treated chalcogrammus and nudus as a valid species separate from S. pachycephalus, but no first reviser action taken -- (Kai et al. 2011:340 [ref. 31619]). •Valid as Sebastes nudus Matsubara 1943 -- (Lindberg & Krasyukova 1987:77 [ref. 15964], Shytko 2001:54 [ref. 26410], Yoshiaki & Nakabo 2013:551 [ref. 32653], Kim et al. 2020:91 [ref. 39118]).
