Appeared first as above on 22 Sept.; then in Ayres 1854:7 [ref. 18923] and Ayres 1855:97 [ref. 31481]. •An older name for Sebastes ruberrimus (Cramer 1895) -- (Love et al. 2002:250 [ref. 26216]). •Although ruber has occasionally been recognized as valid, we favor continued usage of ruberrimus based on prevailing usage. Current status: Synonym of Sebastes ruberrimus (Cramer 1895). Scorpaenidae: Sebastinae. Habitat: marine.
