Apparently available as above from footnote as, "Vomer nob Brownii, Rhomboida, etc. Brown. Jam. p. 455, no. 1. Klein, Miss. iv, pl. xii, f. 1, ou Zeus setapinnis, Mitch. New-Yorck, i, I, 9." If not regarded as available as above then the species dates to Spix & Agassiz (ex Cuvier) 1831 with locality as Brazil [Spix & Agassiz mention Cuvier 1829]. Subsequently described in Cuvier in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1833:189, Pl. 256 [ref. 1002].
