Holotype (unique): whereabouts unknown. Species later illustrated and described in more detail in Steindachner 1879:152 [p. 4 in separate] [ref. 18782]. •Valid as Semaprochilodus laticeps (Steindachner 1879) -- (Castro & Vari in Reis et al. 2003:68 [ref. 27061], Castro & Vari 2003:161 [ref. 28606], DoNascimiento 2016:530 [ref. 34727], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:43 [ref. 35633], Castro 2024:402 [ref. 40817]). Current status: Valid as Semaprochilodus laticeps (Steindachner 1879). Prochilodontidae. Distribution: South America: Orinoco River basin, Colombia and Venezuela. Habitat: freshwater.
