bustamantaei, Lentipes Boulenger [G. A.] (ex Greeff) 1916:46 [Catalogue of the fresh-water fishes of Africa v. 4; ref. 585] São Tomé Island, Rio do Ouro, Gulf of Guinea. Syntypes: BMNH 1914.12.28.3-12 (now 6). Based on Sicydium bustamantei Greeff 1884; name changed to bustamantaei by Boulenger. Boulenger made his description from new specimens, not from Greeff specimens. Lentipes bustamantaei is available. Boulenger used "ae" to replace Greeff's "é". •Valid, but genus may change -- (Nishimoto & Fitzsimons 1986:811 [ref. 6319]). •Synonym of Sicydium bustamantei Greeff 1884 -- (Pezold et al. 2006:972 [ref. 28916], Jenkins et al. 2008:171 [ref. 29883] as bustamantaei, Wirtz et al. 2007:21 [ref. 30263]). •The marine larva of Sicydium bustamantei Greeff 1884 -- (pers. comm. from N. Bailly on Boden, Keith, Busson and Capuli, 25 Feb. 2012). Current status: Synonym of Sicydium bustamantei Greeff 1884. Gobiidae: Sicydiinae. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.

bustamantei, Sicydium Greeff [R.] 1884:50 [Sitzungsberichte der Gesellschaft zur Beförderung der Gesamten Naturwissenschaften zu Marburg 1884 (pt. 2); ref. 28781] Säo Tomé Island, Gulf of Guinea. Syntypes: ZMH 19295 [ex 8381] (1), H 19296 [ex 8382] (1). Lectotype designation not researched; listed in Pezold et al. 2006:967 [ref. 28916], but that designation is Invalid. Greeff 1884 recognized that Gobius bustamantei Greeff 1882 consisted of two species; he retained the larger specimens as Gobius bustamanei and the smaller specimens were given the name Sicydium bustamantei. •Valid as Sicydium bustamantei Greeff 1884 -- (Maugé 1986:383 [ref. 6218] dated 1882, Pezold et al. 2006:972 [ref. 28916], Wirtz et al. 2007:40 [ref. 30263] dated 1882, Harrison et al. 2007:511 [ref. 30083], Miller & Murdy in Carpenter & De Angelis 2016:2842 [ref. 34618] as bustamentei, Reiner 2019:266 [ref. 38139], Fermon et al. 2022:221 [ref. 39448] with question). Current status: Valid as Sicydium bustamantei Greeff 1884. Gobiidae: Sicydiinae. Distribution: Eastern Atlantic: Cameroon south to Gabon, including Bioko (Equatorial Guinea,) and São Tomé and Principe. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
