plumieri, Gobius Bloch [M. E.] (ex Plumier) 1786:154, Pl. 178 (fig. 3) [Naturgeschichte der ausländischen Fische v. 2; ref. 465] Rio Seibo, 15 kilometers northwest of El Seibo, 50 kilometers northeast of San Pedro de Macoris, 18°53'N, 69°07'W, Dominican Republic. Neotype: SMNS 11331. Type catalog: Fricke 2005:40 [ref. 29864.] Based on 'Gobius maxillà superiore prominente ...' in manuscript description by Plumier (Charles Plumier, 1646-1704, French explorer and naturalist). Spelled plümieri originally; and would be emended to pluemieri on ICZN Art. 32.5.2.1; derivation not given but presumed to be on the person Plumier (not a German name but the German spelling of a French name). The spelling plumieri is an incorrect subsequent spelling in prevailing usage and should be maintained. Spelled plumierii in Bloch & Schneider 1801:69 [ref. 471], plumier in Lacepède 1800:537, 562, Pl. 15 (fig. 2) [ref. 2709] and Sonnini 1803:194, 234 (vol. 7) [ref. 30473].
