Treated as feminine, Art. 30.2.4. Type designated by Jordan 1917:155 [ref. 2407]. The genera Bangana and Sinilabeo are thought by some workers to be the same, with many Asia species; both names were in current use, and the problem needs study. Based on a misidentified type species according to Chen et al. in Pan et al. 1991:168 [ref. 23876].
