Euscaris is a misspelling. •Synonym of Sparisoma Swainson 1838, but a valid subgenus Euscarus as described -- (Quignard & Pras in Whitehead et al. 1986:943 [ref. 13676]). •Synonym of Sparisoma Swainson 1839 -- (Monod 1973:444 [ref. 7193], Bellwood 1994:64 [ref. 19116], Parenti & Randall 2000:60 [ref. 24943]). Vide sub genere Scaro"; otherwise as a genus. Type above as given by Jordan, but that species apparently not mentioned by Bleeker. Not Scarus of Gronow 1763 or Forsskål 1775. Dates to preprint in Dec. 1847, jounal in 1849. Kottelat (2013) disagrees; the "Scarus". Vide sub genera Scaro" refers to Valenciennes 1840. •In the synonymy of Sparisoma Swainson 1839 -- (Monod 1973:444 [ref. 7193], Parenti & Randall 2000:60 [ref. 24943]). •In the synonymy of Scarus Forsskål 1775 -- (Kottelat 2013:381 [ref. 32989]).
