Neotype designated by Hata et al. 2019:11 [ref. 36766]. •Traced to Stolephorus baganensis Delsman 1931 -- (Kottelat 2013:54 [ref. 32989]). •Valid as Stolephorus baganensis Hardenberg 1933 -- (Whitehead et al. 1988:405 [ref. 5725], Kottelat et al. 1993:23 [ref. 23448], Mohsin & Ambak 1996: [ref. 27969] as bagenensis, Wongratana et al. 1999:1729 [ref. 24719], Munroe & Nizinski in Randall & Lim 2000:588 [ref. 25122], Khan 2003:7 [ref. 27710], Parenti & Lim 2005:179 [ref. 28285], Matsunuma in Kimura et al. 2015:14 [ref. 34319], Hata et al. 2019:4 [ref. 36766], Psomadakis et al. 2020:297 [ref. 37272], Gangan et al. 2020:572 [ref. 37338], Hata et al. 2022:12 [ref. 39809]). Current status: Valid as Stolephorus baganensis Delsman 1931. Engraulidae: Engraulinae. Distribution: Eastern Indian Ocean, western Pacific: Myanmar east to Thailand and western Indonesia. Habitat: brackish, marine.

Syntypes: (32 + 53, whereabouts unknown). Neotype designated by Hata et al. 2019:21 [ref. 36766]. •Synonym of Stolephorus baganensis Delsman 1931 -- (Whitehead et al. 1988:405 [ref. 5725] with author Hardenberg 1933, Wongratana et al. 1999:1729 [ref. 24719] with author Hardenberg 1933, Kottelat 2013:55 [ref. 32989]). •Valid as Stolephorus bengalensis (Dutt & Babu Rao 1959) -- (Hata et al. 2019:18 [ref. 36766], Gangan et al. 2020:572 [ref. 37338], Hata et al. 2022:149 [ref. 39603], Hata et al. 2023:198 [ref. 40153]). Current status: Valid as Stolephorus bengalensis (Dutt & Babu Rao 1959). Engraulidae: Engraulinae. Distribution: Northern Indian Ocean: Pakistan to Bay of Bengal. Habitat: brackish, marine.

macrops, Stolephorus baganensis Hardenberg [J. D. F.] 1933:260 [Natuurkundig Tijdschrift voor Nederlandsch IndiĆ« v. 93 (no. 2); ref. 16492] Indragiri River mouth, Sumatra, Indonesia. Syntypes: lost. Apparently a misspelling of Stolephorus baganensis megalops Delsman 1931. Also in Hardenberg 1934:339 [ref. 16426]. •Synonym of Stolephorus baganensis Hardenberg 1934 -- (Whitehead et al. 1988:405 [ref. 5725], Wongratana et al. 1999:1729 [ref. 24719]). •Synonym of Stolephorus baganensis Delsman 1931 -- (Kottelat 2013:54 [ref. 32989]). •Synonym of Stolephorus tri (Bleeker 1852) -- (Hata et al. 2019:32 [ref. 36766]). Misspelling. Current status: Synonym of Stolephorus tri (Bleeker 1852). Engraulidae: Engraulinae. Habitat: brackish, marine.

[Rodkan mouth at Bagen si Api Api, Sumatra, Indonesia.] Neotype: RMNH.PISC 2222. Syntypes: lost. Hardenberg (and Whitehead 1968:18 [ref. 7931]) later used the name Stolephorus baganensis macrops by mistake for this subspecies. Neotype designated by Hata et al. 2019:32 [ref. 36766]. •Synonym of Stolephorus baganensis Delsman 1931 -- (Kottelat 2013:54 [ref. 32989]). •Synonym of Stolephorus tri (Bleeker 1852) -- (Hata et al. 2019:32 [ref. 36766]).
