[southern coast of Java, Indonesia.] Neotype: KAUM-I 22316. Appeared first briefly as above; then in Hardenberg 1934:350 [ref. 16426]. Neotype designated by Hata et al. 2019:25 [ref. 36766]. •Synonym of Stolephorus insularis Hardenberg 1933 -- (Whitehead et al. 1988:413 [ref. 5725], Wongratana et al. 1999:1736 [ref. 24719], Kottelat 2013:55 [ref. 32989]). •Valid as Stolephorus oceanicus Hardenberg 1933 -- (Hata & Motomura 2018:[7] [ref. 35807], Hata et al. 2019:22 [ref. 36766]). Current status: Valid as Stolephorus oceanicus Hardenberg 1933. Engraulidae: Engraulinae. Distribution: Eastern Indian Ocean, western Pacific: western Indonesia and Singapore north to Vietnam. Habitat: brackish, marine.
