Doryrhamphinarum Kaup [J. J.] 1856:62 [Catalogue of lophobranchiate fish in the collection of the British Museum; ref. 2575] Neut. Syngnathus heterosoma Bleeker 1851. Type by original designation (also monotypic). Fowler (MS), treats as a lapsus for Doryichthys Kaup 1856 [= 1853]; Dawson 1981 treats as a nomen nudum. Kaup provides a description from Bleeker, and states (p. 63), "...leaves me in no doubt of this species being the type of a genus hitherto undescribed..." Kaup's heading "Genus novem, 5. Doryrhamphinarum" is regarded here as meaning of the family Doryrhamphidae, without proposal of a new genus. •Synonym of Doryichthys Kaup 1856 -- (Dawson 1981:2 [ref. 5511]).
