Original genus should have been spelled Tetraodon. •Valid as Fugu basilewskianus (Basilewsky 1855) -- (Cheng & Zhou 1997:485 [ref. 26385]). •Valid as Takifugu basilewskianus [perhaps should be basilevskianus] (Basilewsky 1855) -- (Lindberg et al. 1997:118 [ref. 23547], Choi et al. 2003:453, 698 [ref. 26218] as basilevskianus). •Synonym of Takifugu rubripes (Temminck & Schlegel 1850) -- (Dyldin & Orlov 2017:203 [ref. 35257]). Current status: Synonym of Takifugu rubripes (Temminck & Schlegel 1850). Tetraodontidae. Distribution: Indo-West Pacific [if valid]. Habitat: marine.

Paratypes: ABE 4515 (1), 6386 (1), 7926' (1), 8006 (1, skull), 8008 (1, skull), 8009 (1); ZUMT [ex ABE 4545] (1). •Valid as Takifugu chinensis (Abe 1949) -- (Matsuura in Masuda et al. 1984:363 [ref. 6441], Lindberg et al. 1997:123 [ref. 23547], Nakabo 2000:1426 [ref. 25182], Nakabo 2002:1426 [ref. 26193], Choi et al. 2003:453, 698 [ref. 26218], Barabanshchikov 2003:849 [ref. 27538], Parin 2003:S34 [ref. 28536], Parin et al. 2014:553 [ref. 33547], Kim et al. 2020:203 [ref. 39118], Sonoyama et al. 2020:133 [ref. 37637]). •Synonym of Takifugu rubripes (Temminck & Schlegel 1850) -- (Dyldin et al. 2016:136 [ref. 34682], Dyldin & Orlov 2017:203 [ref. 35257]). UMMZ specimens probably should not be considered types as they were referred with question as, "... are apparently the young of the same species." •Valid as Fugu pseudommus (Chu 1935) -- (Cheng & Zhou 1997:486 [ref. 26385], Wang et al. 2001:339 [ref. 26566]). •Valid as Takifugu pseudommus (Chu 1935) -- (Matsuura in Masuda et al. 1984:363 [ref. 6441], Lindberg et al. 1997:129 [ref. 23547], Nakabo 2000:1425 [ref. 25182], Song et al. 2001:129 [ref. 25468], Nakabo 2002:1425 [ref. 26193], Choi et al. 2003:453, 700 [ref. 26218], Kim et al. 2020:205 [ref. 39118]). •Synonym of Takifugu rubripes (Temminck & Schlegel 1850) -- (Dyldin et al. 2016:136 [ref. 34682], Dyldin & Orlov 2017:203 [ref. 35257]).
