Paralectotypes: BMNH 1855.9.19.1311-1312 (2), 1855.9.19.1316 (1, cleared and stained), 1855.9.19.1318 (1). Appeared first without distinguishing features in Gray & Richardson in Richardson 1843:226 [ref. 1885]. Lectotype selected by Hardy 1983:14 [ref. 5341]. Original genus should have been spelled Tetraodon. See Aphanacanthus Le Danois 1959 and Kottelat 2001:611-612 [ref. 25859]. •Valid as Tetractenos hamiltoni (Richardson 1846) -- (Hardy 1983:11 [ref. 5341], Kuiter 1993:420 [ref. 23929], Francis 1993:168 [ref. 25479], Kuiter 1997:414 [ref. 25488], Johnson 1999:755 [ref. 25471], Ebert 2001:79 [ref. 25494], Matsuura 2001:3957 [ref. 26317] with authorship as Gray & Richardson 1843, Hoese et al. 2006:1926 [ref. 29099] with authorship as Gray & Richardson 1843). Current status: Valid as Tetractenos hamiltoni (Richardson 1846). Tetraodontidae. Distribution: Southwestern Pacific. Habitat: marine.

Syntypes: QM I.108 (3). •Synonym of Tetractenos hamiltoni (Richardson 1846) -- (Hardy 1983:11 [ref. 5341], Ebert 2001:92 [ref. 25494]). Current status: Synonym of Tetractenos hamiltoni (Richardson 1846). Tetraodontidae. Habitat: marine.
