Loality as Panama or Guatemala ('Pacific coast of Guatemala' according to Günther 1864:324 [ref. 1974], but 'Pacific coast of Panama' according to jar label and register entry). The Peru syntypes were reidentified as Bryconamericus peruanus (Müller & Troschel 1845) (J. Maclaine, personal communication, Aug. 2009).
