Syntypes: NMW 57589-90 (2, 2). Species illustrated and described in more detail in Steindachner 1891:368, Pl. 2 (fig. 1) [ref. 4236]. Objectively invalid, preoccupied by Tetragonopterus lineatus Perugia (Apr.) 1891; replaced by Tetragonopterus steindachneri Eigenmann 1893. •In the synonymy of Bario steindachneri (Eigenmann 1893) -- (Benine in Reis et al. 2003:114 [ref. 27061]). 1°Homonym. Current status: Synonym of Bario steindachneri (Eigenmann 1893). Characidae: Stethaprioninae. Habitat: freshwater.

Replacement name for Tetragonopterus lineatus Steindachner 1892 [= 1891]; thought to be preooccupied by Tetragonopterus lineatus Perugia (1891 or Apr. 1892). •Valid as Bario steindachneri (Eigenmann 1893) -- (Ovchynnyk 1967:27 [ref. 37559], Ortega & Vari 1986:7 [ref. 9708], Benine in Reis et al. 2003:114 [ref. 27061], Mirande 2010:506 [ref. 31006], Barriga Salazar 2014:106 [ref. 35745], Sarmiento et al. 2014:184 [ref. 35004], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:48 [ref. 35633], Meza-Vargas et al. 2021:17 [ref. 39298], Benine 2024:113 [ref. 40817]).
