Acanthura is a misspelling. Without species originally, first addition of species and type designation not necessary. Type designated by Fowler 1904:544 [ref. 1367] as Chaetodon sohol Forsskål; Jordan lists Hapurus fasciatus Forster 1778 as type. However, Forster mentioned Acanthrus of Forsskål on p. 84 establishing Harpurus as a replacement name with the same type as Acanthurus. •Synonym of Acanthurus Forsskål 1775 -- (Randall 1955:363 [ref. 13648], Kottelat 2013:441 [ref. 32989]).
