Bermudichthys Nichols [J. T.] 1920:62 [Proceedings of the Biological Society of Washington v. 33; ref. 3173] Masc. Bermudichthys subfurcatus Nichols 1920. Type by original designation (also monotypic). •Synonym of Thalassoma Swainson 1839 -- (Collette 1962:442 [ref. 4554], Parenti & Randall 2000:44 [ref. 24943]). Current status: Synonym of Thalassoma Swainson 1839. Labridae.

Chloricthys (subgenus of Julis) Swainson [W.] 1839:173, 232 [The natural history and classification v. 2; ref. 4303] Masc. Labrus bifasciatus Bloch 1791. Type by subsequent designation. Type designated by Swain 1882:275 [ref. 5966]. Spelled Chlorichthys by authors. •Synonym of Thalassoma Swainson 1839 -- (Bauchot & Quignard 1973:442 [ref. 7204], Parenti & Randall 2000:44 [ref. 24943]). Current status: Synonym of Thalassoma Swainson 1839. Labridae.

Gomphosus Lacepède [B. G. E.] 1801:100 [Histoire naturelle des poissons (Lacepède) v. 3; ref. 2710] Masc. Gomphosus caeruleus Lacepède 1801. Type by subsequent designation. Type designated by Jordan 1917:61 [ref. 2407]. Also appeared in Sonnini 1803:108 (vol. 8) [ref. 30473]. Some species of Gomphosus, including the type species, are found to be nested within Thalassoma Swainson 1839, so a generic rearrangement of both genera is needed, Bernardi et al. 2014:373 [ref. 27454]. •Valid as Gomphosus Lacepède 1801 -- (Araga in Masuda et al. 1984:205 [ref. 6441], Randall 1986:693 [ref. 5706], Parenti & Randall 2000:18 [ref. 24943], Westneat 2001:3386 [ref. 26277], Allen et al. 2006:1389 [ref. 29095], Kuiter 2010:208 [ref. 35285], Fricke et al. 2018:282 [ref. 35805], Golani & Fricke 2018:124 [ref. 36273], Fricke et al. 2019:227 [ref. 36673]). Subgenus should have been spelled Xyrichtys. Some species of Gomphosus Lacepède 1802, including the type species, are found to be nested within Thalassoma, so a generic rearrangement of both genera is needed, Bernardi et al. 2014:373 [ref. 27454]. •Valid as Thalassoma Swainson 1839 -- (Bauchot & Quignard 1973:441 [ref. 7204], Richards & Leis 1984:544 [ref. 13668], Araga in Masuda et al. 1984:205 [ref. 6441], Randall & Edwards 1985:14 [ref. 17448], Randall 1986:703 [ref. 5706], Quignard & Pras in Whitehead et al. 1986:940 [ref. 13676], Randall & Mee 1994:302 [ref. 21641], Allen 1995:75 [ref. 21960], Parenti & Randall 2000:44 [ref. 24943], Westneat 2001:3386 [ref. 26277], Westneat 2003:1703 [ref. 27105], Bernardi et al. 2004:369 [ref. 27454], Allen et al. 2006:1413 [ref. 29095], Kuiter 2010:183 [ref. 35285], Lipej & Dulčić 2010:55 [ref. 36649], Parenti & Randall 2011:36 [ref. 31299], Fricke et al. 2018:293 [ref. 35805], Golani & Fricke 2018:130 [ref. 36273], Brown et al. 2019:174 [ref. 36444], Fricke et al. 2019:238 [ref. 36673]).
