Same as (and predates) Thyrsites lepidopoides Cuvier 1832. •Incorrectly valid as Thyrsitops lepidopoides (Cuvier 1832) -- (Nakamura in Nakamura et al. 1986:272 [ref. 14235], Pequeño 1989:67 [ref. 14125] as lepidopodes, Nakamura & Parin 1993:57 [ref. 21769], Menezes & Figueiredo in Menezes et al. 2003:102 [ref. 27192], Nión et al. 2016:52 [ref. 35565], Spier et al. 2018:16 [ref. 36103], Ribeiro et al. 2019:8 [ref. 36717]). •Valid as Thyrsites lepidopodea Lesson 1831 -- (Carvalho-Filho 2023:245 [ref. 40480], Hoff et al. 2023:6 [ref. 40463]). Current status: Valid as Thyrsites lepidopodea Lesson 1831. Gempylidae. Distribution: Southwestern Atlantic: EspĂ­rito Santo (Brazil) south to central Argentina; southeastern Pacific. Habitat: marine.
