Type catalog: Blanc 1962:222 [ref. 20868]. For authorship problems see account of Chromis guineensis. •Questionably as a synonym of Tilapia guineensis (Günther 1862) -- (Teugels & Thys van den Audenaerde 1991:489 [ref. 20943], Teugels & Thys van den Audenaerde in Lévêque et al. 1992:758 [ref. 21590]). •Synonym of Coptodon guineensis (Günther 1862) -- (Dunz & Schliewen 2013:73 [ref. 32672]). guineensis, Chromis Günther [A.] (ex Bleeker) 1862:271, 510 [Catalogue of the fishes in the British Museum v. 4; ref. 1969] Ashantee, Guinea [now in Ghana]. Holotype (unique): BMNH 1849.10.9.15. Based on Bleeker account and 1 BMNH specimen (p. 510); therefore authorship regarded as Günther even though the account on p. 271 was from Bleeker. See full account in Bleeker 1863 [ref. 395]. In that account Bleeker reports the synonym Chromis guineënsis, so probably published after ref. 1969? •Valid as Tilapia guineensis (Günther 1862) -- (Dunz & Schliewen 2010:2 [ref. 30890], Dunz & Schliewen 2010:276 [ref. 31064]). •Valid as Coptodon guineensis (Günther 1862) -- (Dunz & Schliewen 2013:73 [ref. 32672], Kidé et al. 2016:1388 [ref. 37303], Schelly & Stiassny in Carpenter & De Angelis 2016:2709 [ref. 34618], Louizi et al. 2019:98 [ref. 38351], Skelton 2019:228 [ref. 36564], Fermon et al. 2022:245 [ref. 39448], Walsh et al. 2022:[6] [ref. 39281]).
