Current status: Synonym of Tinca tinca (Linnaeus 1758). Tincidae. Habitat: freshwater, brackish.

vulgaris, Tinca Valenciennes [A.] in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1842:322, Pl. 484 [Histoire naturelle des poissons v. 16; ref. 1009] Paris, Tegel, Berlin, Lakes Zug, Geneva, Como, Trasimene. Perugia, Naples Rome, Florence, Sicily, Italy. Described as a new species, but this species was first described by Fleming 1828, and Valenciennes cited Fleming on p. 331. Objectively invalid; preoccupied by Tinca vulgaris Fleming 1828. •Valid as Tinca vulgaris (Fleming 1828) -- (Herrera 1896:21 [ref. 39336] with author as Cuvier). •Synonym of Tinca tinca (Linnaeus 1758) -- (Berg 1949:615 [ref. 20661], Yang & Hwang 1964:11 [ref. 13497], Luo in Chen et al. 1998:93 [ref. 23878] dating to Cuvier 1817 [1816, but that was not Latinized]). 1°Homonym.
