Introduced in San Francisco Bay (California, U.S.A.). Habitat: brackish.

japonicus, Triaenopogon Rendahl [H.] 1924:27 [Arkiv för Zoologi v. 16 (no. 2); ref. 15467] Tokyo, Japan. Holotype: CAS-SU 6593 (98 mm SL). Paratypes: CAS-SU 18426 (2). Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:118 [ref. 12291]. Based on literature and 98 mm SL specimen (Jordan & Snyder 1902:112 [ref. 2512]). •Synonym of Triaenopogon barbatus (Günther 1861) -- (Lindberg & Krasyukova 1975:350 [ref. 7348]). •Synonym of Tridentiger barbatus (Günther 1861) based on placement of type species. Current status: Synonym of Tridentiger barbatus (Günther 1861). Gobiidae: Gobionellinae. Habitat: brackish.

Type lost in WWII (according to Wu in Cui, personal communication, June 2013). •Valid as Triaenopogon microsquamis Wu 1931 -- (Larson in Randall & Lim 2000:640 [ref. 25122]). •Synonym of Tridentiger barbatus (Günther 1861) -- (Wu in Cui, personal communication, June 2013). Current status: Synonym of Tridentiger barbatus (Günther 1861). Gobiidae: Gobionellinae. Distribution: Western Pacific off southern China (if valid). Habitat: marine.
