Trichiurus haumela Valenciennes 1832 (= Clupea haumela Forsskål 1775). Type by monotypy. As used by Bleeker 1862 et seq., genus is same as Enchelyopus Klein 1775 (not available). Objectively invalid; preoccupied by Enchelyopus Bloch & Schneider 1801. •Synonym of Trichiurus Linnaeus 1758 -- (Nakamura & Parin 1993:103 [ref. 21769]). 1°Homonym. Type by subsequent monotypy or subsequent designation. No included species; first addition possibly by Cuvier 1797:344 [ref. 1018], and if first then type is argenteus. If Cuvier 1797 was not first, then probably type was designated by Bory de Saint-Vincent, v. 9, 1826:291 [ref. 3853] on Lacepède (see Whitley 1935:137 [ref. 6396]). Jordan 1917:28 [ref. 2407] says type is L. gouani = Trichiurus caudatus.
