Type catalog: Hutchins & Smith 1991:35 [ref. 19335], Moore et al. 2008:39 [ref. 30117]. •Synonym of Xenocephalus australiensis (Kishimoto 1989) but a valid subspecies as described -- (Kishimoto 2001:3531 [ref. 26287]). •Valid as Xenocephalus australiensis (Kishimoto 1989) -- (Hutchins 2001:41 [ref. 25847], Bray & Hoese 2006:1515 [ref. 29049], Vilasri 2013:91 [ref. 33304], Psomadakis et al. 2020:536 [ref. 37272]). Current status: Valid as Xenocephalus australiensis (Kishimoto 1989). Uranoscopidae. Distribution: Eastern Indian Ocean, western Pacific. Habitat: marine.

Distribution: Western Pacific: Indonesia; East China Sea and Ryukyu Islands (Japan) north to Korea and central Japan. Habitat: marine.

Current status: Synonym of Xenocephalus elongatus (Temminck & Schlegel 1843). Uranoscopidae. Habitat: marine.
