Type catalog: Gilbert 1998:240-241 [ref. 23395] but dating to wrong description and type. Apparently appeared first as name only in Jordan 1877:376 [ref. 2373]. Also appeared in lengthy account in Jordan 1877:40 [ref. 2374]. New name for Icthelus aurita Rafinesque 1820. •Synonym of Lepomis megalotis (Rafinesque 1820), subspecies megalotis -- (Gilbert 1998:241 [ref. 23395]). Current status: Synonym of Lepomis megalotis (Rafinesque 1820). Centrarchidae: Lepominae. Habitat: freshwater.
